Fill in the Blank Friday

To view image source, click on image.

  1. I am currently obsessed with... knitting and crafts.
  2. Today I am tense because... I'm working on a big work event that's happening tomorrow, and it's my first one with this job, so it's a bit scary!
  3. The age I am is 29. The age I feel is... It depends on the day. I've had some health issues, so some days I feel about 80. Most of the time I feel positively child-like - and I NEVER feel like a grownup!
  4. My favourite place is... My house. Used to be my room, but now that I'm sharing my house with someone and a few cats, it's the whole darn place. I wish it were tidier and less cluttered, which is something I need to work on, but overall I love being there!
  5. Something I have been procrastinating is... De-cluttering the house. I can't even open the spare closet.
  6. The last thing I purchased was... Beer. It was Friday.
  7. The thing I love most about my home is... My boyfriend and my cats. They're what make it feel like a home rather than just a place. I like that we've been there for awhile so it feels like our place now and when I walk in the door I feel more calm.

Thanks to Lauren at the little things we do for the fill in the blank friday!

Thursday 13 - Best. Inventions. EVER.

To view image source, click on image.

  1. The umbrella. I'm from Vancouver, y'all. It rains A LOT here.
  2. Not really an invention, per se, but whoever decided to domesticate the cat was really onto something there.
  3. The book. 'Nuff said.
  4. Indoor plumbing. Perhaps not as sexy or exciting as some of the others, but really, where would we be without it?
  5. Chewing gum. It's a revelation.
  6. The internets! Honestly, how did we ever waste time without it??
  7. The weekend. It's the only time I get enough sleep.
  8. Sex. Speaks for itself.
  9. On a similar note, Chocolate. Mmmm.
  10. Sarcasm.
  11. Wellington boots. See #1 above.
  12. Beer.
  13. Sliced bread. Of course.

Wicked Wednesday - The Bloggess

Yeah, I know, it's a day late. I've been busy and no one reads this shit anyway.

I want this lady to write my obituary. She may well be the single most hilarious writer I've ever come across. I'm going to let her speak for herself.

Fill in the Blank Friday - A Little Bit About Me

It's that time of the week again! Time to collapse in a heap of happy exhaustion! Here's a little bit more about me (not that you asked, but I don't care)!

To view image source, click on image.
  1. I am... pretty chill, really. I suppose you could say I've "mellowed." I like reading shit on the internets (and those old-fashioned things, you know, where they printed out pages and glued them together). I recently got back into knitting and I'm hoping it will lead to other creative endeavours that have been sadly neglected. I like writing too. I've got three (yes, THREE!) mischievous kitties that I will talk smack about a lot - but don't you try it. I like to talk and have opinions on most everything, though I love to hear what you think, too.
  2. The bravest thing I've ever done was... oh geez. Well that's not a fair question. Anything I say is going to sound lame and/or self-congratulatory. I suppose it depends on your definition, but you could say that having three cats takes some courage!
  3. I feel prettiest when... I'm healthy.
  4. Something that keeps me awake at night is... oh everything. First of all I'm a night owl. If left to my own devices I'll end up on a schedule that has me going to bed at like 4 a.m. Also I'm a worrier. I'll lie awake worrying about work, things I have to do the next day, how messy the house is... or I'll go back to worrying about where my life is going. That one's always good for some tossing and turning! And if all that fails, the cats never do. They know when I'm sinking into a blissful slumber and choose that exact moment to jump on my head.
  5. My favourite meal in the entire world is... I have to pick just one?? I love veggies if they're done right, and my Dad's Christmas dinner is up there (although after an unfortunate Norwalk incident a few years back I'm not so crazy about nut loaf...)
  6. The way to my heart is... kind words and deeds, intelligent conversation and LOTS of hugs. Also helps if you're nice to my books, my people and my cats.
  7. I would like to... travel. Haven't had a vacation in a decade and can't wait to get the f**k outta here to somewhere warm, yo!
Cheers to Lauren over at the little things we do for the FITBF questions! Head on over and share your answers...

Wicked Wednesday - Barney Stinson's VD PSA

I've decided to institute "Wicked Wednesdays" - where I share something random that I think is, you know, wicked! It can be anything - an article, a photo, a post by another blogger, an idea, a quote.... you name it, if it's wicked, it's fair game! So, without further ado, here's the first Wicked Wednesday!

Those of you who know me know I'm not much of a fan of scheduled "romance." By that I mean anniversaries, Valentine's Day, flowers when you do something stupid... any of that. I don't have anything against it for people who are into it, but it's just not me. It's too much pressure and feels way too forced. So for this year's anti-Valentine's Day, I stumbled over to Barney Stinson's blog (you know, NPH's character on the always-hysterical show How I Met Your Mother) and discovered his "Public Service Announcement." Of course, in true Barney style, it's completely offensive and misogynistic - and it made me laugh so hard I swear a little pee came out. These are Valentines for desperate women to give to random guys they find at whatever bar they stumbled into on VD. Read them. They'll make your day.

Needled

So I recently took up knitting again after years of not being crafty. Between school and work, not only did I not have time, but I didn't have the energy. For the last year or two of my degree I was constantly burned out and had zero creative juice to spare. Now that I'm done school and have a bit of time to do what I want guilt-free, I'm searching for hobbies. Not just to fill the time, but to fill the void. I have been feeling more and more disconnected from myself for the past few years, and have developed some unhealthy habits like shopping and watching way too much TV to feel good. But it never lasts, and overall it just makes me feel more empty. I look back on a time when I used to garden, cook and sew, and I miss it. So I decided to throw myself back into creating, and knitting seemed like a practical choice. Not too mentally demanding, it creates something you can use, and with Youtube these days you can find instructions for everything!

I've been knitting on and off since I was about 6 - my maternal grandmother was a avid knitter and I think my mother taught me. That's the one thing I really remember about my grandmother - her knitting in front of the TV. She could knit an entire sweater in one night without ever seeming to look at her hands. It was amazing to me. But until recently, I've never done more than knitting and purling - no cabling or fancy patterns. I hadn't even used circular needles. So I figured I'd give it a shot with this "Snowtracks Cap" from Stitch Nation. After a couple of re-starts I finally got the hang of it, and within a week, lo and behold - my first knitted cap! 'Cept the thing I didn't consider is my recent hair metamorphosis that included bangs a la Emily the Strange. You can't wear caps with a thick fringe 'cos they end up in your eyes. FAIL.

Oh well, at least now I know I can not only knit a cap, but follow a pattern. On to the next....

Okay, so it's a day late, but...

1. The TV show/website that I watch/read that I would be embarrassed to tell anyone about is... ANTM. I love and hate it in equal measure. I love watching the creative ideas for photo shoots, the outfits, the makeup and the final images. I hate the rest of it. I usually fast-forward through most of the talking.

2. An item of clothing that is worn and torn but that I love far too much to throw away is... an old guy's DC shoes t-shirt that I've had for years but is soooo comfy to wear as pyjamas. It's got holes and stains... but I absolutely love it.

3. My grocery store impulse buy is... exorbitantly expensive smoothies. And yummy-smelling lotion. Love those.

4. Something I do at work to pass the time that I wouldn't want my co-workers to know about is... daydreaming. I'll be staring at my computer screen and I'm seeing something else entirely. This happens a few times a day, particularly when I'm stuck on whatever I'm working on.

5. One thing in my life that I could give up, but never will is... beer. And salt. And chocolate. Oh hell, lots of things!

6. A little indulgence that I have is... Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies. I don't have them often, but I've been eating them since high school so they're very comforting and nostalgic.

7. The junk drawer/area in my house is... ummm... everywhere. Seriously. I clean up and then a couple of days later there is stuff all over the place. And somehow, it all seems to be mine. I swear it multiplies when I'm not looking.

Thanks to Lauren at http://thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com/ for this set of questions!

This is Me.

Hello World. Here I am. Though I'm not entirely new to blogging, I am new to blogging as a sort of journal that anyone can read. But lately I've been feeling more verbose, and maybe it's time for me to start musing about stuff out loud. So to speak.

So I've decided to start this new blog as a sort of experiment. I don't want blogging to take over my life, nor do I intend to share every aspect of my life in detail not even my doctors would want to read. I'm just going to babble on a bit and see where it goes. So hello world; this is me.
